Homes are personal. Their design should be too.

Alison River

As a child, I remember insisting on pink carpet in my bedroom, then spending what felt like ages searching for The Perfect Bedspread. Looking back, I suppose the signs were there.

My path to interior design wasn’t particularly straight. I studied international business, lived in different parts of the country and in Spain, traveled extensively and eventually found my way to the work that brings together things I’ve always been curious about: people, places and how our surroundings affect the way we live.

I’ve been designing interiors for more than 20 years. What still interests me most is understanding the person in front of me. How do you live? What do you notice? What makes you comfortable? What do you want to feel when you walk through the door?

I bring a discerning eye and a great deal of attention to detail, but I don’t begin with a predetermined look. I begin by listening. The goal is a home that feels considered, beautiful and unmistakably yours.

A home that feels like you

I believe the most interesting homes are collected, not decorated. They have layers, meaningful pieces, beautiful materials and evidence of the people who actually live there.

I’m interested in what you already own and love as much as I am in what we might add. I ask a lot of questions, pay attention to how you use your home and look for possibilities you may not see yet.

My role isn’t to impose a style on you. It’s to bring clarity and cohesion to the process, make thoughtful recommendations and help create a home that supports the way you want to live.

And yes, I like color.
