Interior design for a remodel or new construction should start early. If you’re bringing on an architect or contractor, it’s a good time to bring your interior designer into the conversation too.

This is where I start with most clients because the earlier we make thoughtful decisions, the better everything works together. It’s also when the biggest decisions are made and when good planning can prevent costly changes later.

I’m involved from the beginning to make sure the home feels cohesive, functions well and supports how you actually live day to day.

Throughout planning and construction, I guide the interior selections, including:

• flooring
• cabinetry and built-ins
• lighting
• countertops and surfaces
• plumbing fixtures
• paint colors and finishes
• all the smaller details that tie everything together

Depending on the scope of your project, my design work may include detailed floor plans, design concepts, elevations for cabinetry and built-ins, lighting plans and comprehensive specifications for selections.

The goal is a home where the design supports your daily life for many years to come. Furnishings can also be incorporated into the project or added as a separate phase.

Design fees start at $2,500 per room.

Furnishings are often where a home really begins to feel personal. Whether this is a standalone project or layered into a remodel, I design spaces that feel cohesive, comfortable and distinctly yours.

I source from a wide range of makers and trade resources, looking for pieces with the right scale, materials, character and quality for your home. Existing furniture, art and personal pieces can be incorporated too. A home should feel collected over time, not like everything arrived on the same truck.

A furnishings plan may include furniture, lighting, rugs, window treatments, textiles, art, accessories and final styling.

Everything is considered as part of the whole, rather than piece by piece.

Once furnishings are approved, my Timeless Sanctuaries Experience (TSE) manages what happens next, from ordering and tracking to receiving, storage, delivery and final placement. What It’s Like to Work Together

Every interior design project comes with a lot of decisions. My role is to bring clarity and cohesion to those decisions, manage the details and keep everything moving forward, so my clients can stay focused on the home they want to create.

The process begins with a complimentary discovery call. It’s a chance for us to talk about your project, what you’re hoping to accomplish and whether working together feels like a good fit.

From there, most projects begin with Project Discovery, an in-depth meeting of up to 90 minutes, ideally in your home. This time is entirely focused on you, your home and the outcome you want to create. I’ll ask questions, listen closely and help begin defining the path forward.

Project Discovery also gives me the understanding I need to develop a bespoke proposal for the design work ahead.

Project Discovery: $500

Once the project is underway, I guide the design from concept through implementation. Depending on the project, that may include space planning, design development, sourcing and purchasing, collaboration with contractors and vendors, receiving and installation.

You’ll have visibility into budgets and product selections through my project management software, while I keep track of the many details happening behind the scenes.

When should I hire an interior designer for a remodel or new construction project?

Ideally, at the very beginning when you’re bringing on your architect or contractor. That’s when the biggest decisions are made and when I can have the greatest impact on layout, materials and the overall flow of the home. Bringing me in early helps everything work together from the start rather than trying to solve things later.

Do you work with contractors and builders in the Tucson area?

Yes. I regularly collaborate with contractors, builders and architects throughout Tucson and the surrounding areas. My role is to make sure the design vision is carried through clearly, with selections, drawings and details communicated throughout construction.

If you already have your team in place, I’m happy to work with them. If you don’t, I can help you determine who else your project may need.

What areas do you serve?

I work with clients throughout Tucson, Oro Valley, Catalina Foothills, and the surrounding Pima County area. For the right project, I will travel as well.

I also regularly work with clients who don’t yet live in Tucson or who spend only part of the year here. Video meetings, digital presentations and project management technology make it possible to stay closely connected and keep decisions moving even when you’re not in Arizona.

Can you help with kitchen and bathroom remodels?

Yes. Kitchen and bathroom design are a significant part of my work. I can help with space planning, cabinetry, materials, plumbing fixtures, lighting and the many decisions that need to work together before construction begins.

Do you offer furnishings-only design?

Yes. I work on furnishings projects for individual rooms as well as entire homes. This can include furniture, lighting, rugs, window treatments, textiles, art and accessories, with each selection considered as part of the whole.

How long does an interior design project take?

Timelines vary considerably depending on the scope of the project. A furnishings project may take several months, while a renovation or new construction project can take considerably longer. I’ll talk with you about timing and expectations once I understand the scope of your project.

How do you design homes for the Arizona desert climate?

Designing for Southern Arizona comes with some very specific considerations. I pay attention to intense natural light, indoor-outdoor living and materials and finishes that make sense in our dry climate. I also think about how light moves through a home throughout the day and how materials such as wood, stone, plaster and metal can bring warmth and texture without competing with the landscape.

Can you help if I don’t know my design style?

Absolutely. Most clients don’t come to me with a neatly defined design style, and they don’t need to.

I don’t start with a label. I start by understanding how you live, what you respond to, what’s already working and how you want your home to feel. From there, I develop a direction that feels cohesive and natural to you rather than trying to fit your home into a predetermined style.

Will my home feel too “Southwestern”?

Not unless that’s what you want. Living in the desert certainly influences my work, as does Mother Nature in general, but I’m not interested in creating themed interiors.

I take my cues from the architecture, the surroundings and, most importantly, the people who live there. The result might be modern, organic, mid-century or something that doesn’t need a label at all. What matters is that it feels connected to its setting and personal to you.
